The University of New Mexico –and by extension, state taxpayers who help fund the university — are gambling that for $4.5 million over the next six years, can resurrect the nearly lifeless Lobos football program.

That’s the package that Davie will receive as the new head coach at UNM. Davie, who was introduced today at a news conference, will receive $700,000 the first year and then $760,000 for the remaining five years on the deal.

On top of that, UNM is as part of a buyout agreement for the coach who won just two games in little more than two seasons in Albuquerque.
